Barbecue Grill Problems You Would Want To Avoid

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

A home is not a home without a barbecue grill. Unknown to many, this seemingly inconspicuous home appliance is the secret tool to many memorable moments at the table alone or with friends and family. Unfortunately, there are several grill problems that can greatly affect how much you can enjoy your grilling experience.

The kind of materials used in the grill has a huge bearing on the outcome of your meal. Low grade stainless steel grills are the cheapest in the market. They are however, also the most prone to rust and corrosion. You may have to buy a new grill after a few months. This means you don’t enjoy real savings after all. Substandard material is also a hazard. Poorly coated grills can go up in flames even if they have seeming sturdy stainless steel parts.

Then, there is the issue of unreliable fuel source. This however is sometimes not related directly to grill quality. Some high quality grills can still let you down if they have limited fuel sources. Make sure you get a gas grill with a tank that is big enough for your needs. Some homeowners choose to pay professionals to connect their grills to their natural gas lines for uninterrupted grilling. Electric grills are sometimes preferred by buyers because electricity does not run out like gas in tanks.

Some grills are difficult to clean. Charcoal grills are perhaps the most difficult to keep tidy after use. Gas and electric grills however can have their own cleaning problems. Grill plates can have food stuck on them and drip pans can carry stubborn grease. You will find it easier to clean your plates and pan if you settle for a stainless steel unit coated with porcelain. A soft sponge and soapy water will do the trick.

Grills can have too much or too little space. Before you choose a barbecue grill, make sure you assess how often you will use your grill and how many people you plan to cook for. Grills that are too big are a waste of fuel and space. Grills that are too small mean experiencing the inconvenience of having to cook multiple times for a lot of people.

The flame output is another thing. Some gas grills have low flame outputs. Low flame automatically leads to low temperature and prolonged cooking time. Your main problem may lie in a defective regulator. You may have to replace your regulator or manually adjust it. Be careful when you inspect your regulator. Improperly detached or attached regulators can lead to dangerous gas leaks.

Not all grills cook evenly. In the case of gas grills, this may be because of clogged burner holes. The solution is to simply clean and unclog them. Uneven cooking on charcoal grills is often the fault of the griller who may not know how to adjust coal distribution and heat. Using electric grills will reduce this problem because settings for specific food items almost always lead to cooking food exactly as you want them.

Even the best barbecue grill is not perfect. You will however be able to reduce possible problems by choosing the right grill type for your needs and by maintaining or cleaning your grill properly.

Dogs’ Heart Worm, Fleas And Other Parasites

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Heart worm, fleas and other parasites in dogs need to be destroyed by using the appropriate medication on them. Loads of products have come onto the market to protect dogs from heart worms, fleas and other parasites like hook worms, whip worms, round worms, lice, ticks etc.

Out of the heart worms, fleas and other parasites, fleas can produce a hyper-sensitive over-reaction in the infected dog. Animals infected with fleas scratch their skin very vigorously. Often the scratching becomes so severe that the skin becomes hyper-sensitive and dermatitis is the result in the affected patches of skin.

The result of a serious flea infestation is often that your dog can not lie down for long or sleep comfortably due to the persistent flea bites. Therefore, the animal looks as if has some severe skin issues. If the the animal is not properly attended to for these flea bites, there could be a secondary bacterial attack in these areas and there may even be a bad smell coming from the affected area of the animal’s skin.

You need to inspect your dog closely in order prevent a serious outbreak. It is essential to prevent such an outbreak as they are extremely distressing to dogs. Similarly, the skin of the animal needs to be checked regularly for the presence of ticks and lice. In order to do this properly, you need to look at the dog’s skin by separating the dog’s hairs. The easiest way to achieve this is by slowly back-combing or ruffling the dog’s hair.

Usually, if your pet is anaemic, and he is not infested with fleas, you need to rule out hookworm. Symptoms of hookworm are anaemia, loose stools and a pot belly. The dog’s owner may recognize these symptoms themselves, however, to be honest, the dog needs to undergo a routine health check at the vet’s involving faecal and hematological examinations.

There are many commercial products available on the market, some of which are effective for dealing with all these conditions by a single dose. Drugs like ivermectin are highly efficacious and are obtainable in injection, oral and solution forms. The latter should be put directly on the dog’s skin. These drugs can induce the prevention of the above conditions too.

So, the best strategy to follow is to keep a sharp eye on your dog. This could most easily be carried out at bath time and when you are brushing him. You can use an anti-flea and anti-tick shampoo, which will keep these pests under control, if used regularly. Couple this with frequent grooming with a lice comb and the use of a flea collar should keep your pet tick, lice, and flea free.

Food Suggestions To Take On A Picnic

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

When the weather turns warm and the sun is shining, many people start thinking of going on a picnic. Having a picnic is a great way to enjoy nature and get outdoors. It doesn’t require any real specialized equipment either. If you have a blanket, and a cooler, you have what you need.

You want to spend a bit of time planning your picnic meal, though, to make sure that you have a memorable and enjoyable time. Don’t just toss some food into a cooler and go. Enjoy your meal in the park, or at the beach, or at an outdoor attraction, by planning ahead and packing foods that fit with picnics. Here are some picnic favorites:

Potato salad: Potato salad is a flavorful, creamy, enjoyable staple of picnics. Potato salad will usually keep for several hours in a cooler, so it is a good choice to pack. You can get sweet potato salads, mustard-based salads, salads with bits of pickle or olive in them; there’s a variety for nearly any taste. If you don’t have the time to make your own, often you can pick up potato salad at a deli or grocery.

Watermelon: Watermelon is also an easy and kid-pleasing food to include in a picnic. It is very easy to pack a watermelon and the fruit is simple to eat. There’s almost no cleanup.

You can make watermelon easier to manage by cutting it into chunks before the picnic. If you want to do this, store the cut melon in a Tupperware container. You can also buy precut watermelon at many grocery stores.

Bread and cheese: Round out your picnic menu with some bread and cheese. It is a hearty, easy option that is delicious and easy. Simply go to the store and pick up a loaf of a sturdy, crusty bread like a baguette, and choose a type of cheese. Slice both bread and cheese at home and pack up for easy eating once you’re at your picnic location.

Deviled eggs: Deviled eggs are popular and taste great. They work in a variety of settings, but some are better than others. Picnics are perfect settings for deviled eggs.

Deviled eggs also have an attractive mixture of creamy and crunchy textures, which adds another dimension to a picnic meal.
