What To Expect With Birthday Reminders

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

Today, we live more stressful lives than ever before because they are so high paced. We email and text because the regular mail and even faxes were not fast enough for how we do business. Because we are so often overwhelmed by the numerous tasks we have on our plates everyday, that we tend to forget the more sentimental things in life such as a loved one’s birthday.

Birthdays only happen once a year. However, because of our tight schedules and busy lives we sometimes forget unintentionally that one is coming up, and this is such a shame. Plus it is a real heart breaker and disappointment to those very dear to us if we don’t remember them. It is a sad thing not be part of a birthday of someone even in a small way, especially if the one celebrating is a close friend or family member.

We sometimes send a late birthday greeting just to make up for the mishap. But this can never really erase the disappointment that the person felt when they were forgotten. Plus the guilt on our side weighs heavy on our chest. This is a tragedy in its own right.

Gratefully, there is a service that tracks the dates for you and will remind you through email or text no matter where you are. This reminder service is effective and you won’t have to be apologizing for forgetting ever again!

Birthday reminders are a service which can help you cover for your forgetfulness. Now you will never fail to congratulate them on important dates because you will be notified through an alert or email in time to get a card or present. That way you can be ready as if you knew the date was coming all on your own!

These services that provide the reminders also has other features. They do not just offer you a free birthday greeting card to send to people who are important to you, but this Birthday reminder service also has an advanced way of reminding you of an upcoming birthday which is very effective.

Birthday reminders have a system that, wherever you are, allows you to be reminded of a birthday of a friend, family, or someone special in your life. It has a special function that will remind you by sending you a message, whether on your personal or office computer and even on your cellphone via sms.

Now sending your birthday greetings have never been this easy and convenient. And the even better news is that you will never be able to send a late birthday greeting since you will always be reminded through birthday reminders.

You can make sure to never forget another friend’s birthday if you set up birthday reminders before the event’s date. It’s also a good idea to send a birthday greeting to friends and family on their birthday.

Glass Artwork Paperweights

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

My friend has a shop that sells glass artwork. My personal favourite glass artwork is paperweights and I have a lot of fun attending art auctions and buying art glass with her. We pay close attention to what our friends and her clients like and dislike.

I usually give people art glass paperweights that I find at art auctions for milestone birthdays and anniversaries. My mother turned seventy last August and I found a magnificent glass paperweight for her.

The art glass paperweight that I found for my mother was made by Baccarat and I was extremely lucky that this was one of the last items auctioned. A lot of people had already left the auction when this item went on the block. My mother really liked the rose motif because the rose is her favourite flower.

I have a Dutch friend from Den Bosch who loves effigies of frogs. She has been able to decorate her abode very tastefully with her favourite frogs. I have been on the lookout for an art glass paperweight for her for years. I eventually found one at an art auction last year. The glass paperweight featured a frog sitting on a lily pad surrounded by blue water. It was really pretty and my friend began using it on her desk immediately.

I also have an aunt who collects art glass paperweights. She has asked me very often to find glass paperweights for her when I am attending art auctions. Of all of the pieces I have bought for her over the years, one sticks out in my memory more than any other.

The prettiest art glass paperweight I have ever won at an art auction has to be one that featured a blue and gold Macaw. Rick Ayotte was the artist that made it and it was even featured in a book of his work. He has created many lovely art glass paperweights.

There is no difficulty at all selling art glass paperweights made by Rick Ayotte. His work seems to draw a great deal of interest. My friend tries to win any auction she finds for art glass paperweights made by him. She won one not so long ago that looked like pink roses. They looked so fragile and sweet. I know that this art glass paperweight will sell quickly.

There have been some inquiries at the shop for art glass paperweights by Richard Marquis, although we have not found any in any of the art auctions we have attended recently.

I will keep looking out for art glass paperweights at the auctions I go to, but I will not be going way out of my way to track them down. I now buy every art glass paperweight I can find that was made by Rick Satava. My favorite has to be the coral orange jellyfish that I found at an art auction an hour from my home. It was really pretty.

Gizmos For Young Men

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

As a kid, I remember collecting pails of Lego just to be build replications of my favorite vehicles, buildings, animals and appliances I see at home. It is funny due to the fact right after I successfully build the replicas I want out of Lego, I have to take it apart so that I could build more out of the building blocks. I didn’t have much Lego back then so I didn’t really have any a choice but to take them down.

I continued playing with it until I was 15 years old. I was such a late bloomer with the newest games that time which include the SuperNES (Super Nintendo Entertainment System). I only knew about Lego and Family Computer due to the fact that these were the only toys that we had access to as children. So our friends will come over to our house and play with our Lego or play a Mario Brothers game within in our family computer console from Japan.

As I grew up, I still wasn’t in a position to enjoy other toys that the other rich kids were getting to enjoy that time which include scooters, in-line skates, skateboards and trampoline. But I had something that the majority of the kids in the neighborhood didn’t have and they often came over to our house to ask me out to play. Of course, bringing my BMX along with me was the highlight. When we all get to the park, each one takes turn to ride on my bike and in return, they offered me their in-line skates, skateboards and other imported toys that their parents had bought for them recently just so they could get turns of riding my bike. I did appreciate their toys for a short period of time but certainly, I was still a kid who wanted all the toys in the world.

That’s why right now that I’m 28 years old, I may say that I’m getting to enjoy each of the latest gadgets that electronics manufacturers are usually coming up with on a regular basis to satiate the certainly never- ending thirst of gadget freaks like me. When the Xbox 360 became available, I was one of the first men and women in our neighborhood who owned one and I’m proud to say that it took quite a while for next person to order one like mine.

Then when the Ipod Touch came out, I also grabbed one for myself. Same thing happened when the Iphone, Iphone 3g and the Iphone 3gS came out, I was one of the first ones to have one. I also have the best laptop I know I could afford to use for gaming, for editing pictures and videos, a printer to print out all my work, a very good DSLR camera that makes me take professional pictures that could give Nigel Barker a run for his money. All these and I am still upgrading all the stuff that I find in the market that suits my taste.

You see, it is certainly not too late to enjoy the stuff that we weren’t able to appreciate as kids provided that we work hard for it. I believe that hard-earned money is funds well-spent.

What Is In A Wine Glass?

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

The growing trend of popularity of wine has led to a boom in things to go with wine like corkscrews, stoppers, coolers, napkins, pouring baskets, decanters, candles, thermometers, bottle jackets, hydrometers and dozens of variations of each accessory from electric versions to manual ones. Needless to say, a lot of these accessories will be used until the novelty wears off and then left at the back of the cupboard.

However, there is one category of wine drinking accessory that no wine drinker should be without and that is wine glasses. They are indispensable, I am sure that everyone would agree. But the good thing about wine glasses is that they are decorative when they are not in use too. A set of six lead crystal wine glasses is a fine-looking sight. And a fine set of glasses correctly shaped for the wine you are drinking will greatly enhance your enjoyment of that wine.

This is because the shape of the glass is very influential on the drinker’s ability to savour the taste and the aroma of wine. Therefore, it is essential to use the correct glasses for the type of wine being served.

Red wines benefit a lot from contact with air, so, aside from opening the bottle an hour before drinking it, you could decant it. The older and heavier the wine, the more air it needs. The next step is to serve the red wine in large glasses. This is not so as to be able to get as much wine in there as possible! A full, normal size bottle contains six servings no matter what glass you use, but a large glass allows you to swirl the wine around the glass, thereby increasing its contact with air.

A large tulip shaped glass is a good example of this kind of wine glass and any dark red wine would benefit from being drunk out of such a vessel. Try a Rioja or Bordeaux, for instance.

White wines, on the other hand, do not need to breathe for as long as red wines and are best served slightly chilled. Therefore, the wine glasses tend to have a smaller bowl and a longer stem. The bowl is smaller, because swirling is not necessary and the stem is longer, so that the warmth from your hand does not warm the wine up prematurely. Try a Chardonnay, a Sauvignon or a German wine in these glasses.

Champagne glasses are called champagne flutes because the bowl is long and narrow, which allows the bubbles to float through more of the wine than if the bowl were short. This is beneficial for the wine, the taste and its appearance. The stem is also long as with other white wines to diminish heat transfer.

The last main kind of glass is the sherry schooner, which is also used for port. Sherry and port are both heavy reds and so need to breathe, which is one of the reasons why they should be decanted. However, a schooner has hardly any stem, because the warmth from your hand is required to keep the wine at the correct temperature.

Besides the shape of the bowl and the length of the stem, the next most significant factor is the quality of the glass and its design. Some people like hand-blown glass and it can be very beautiful, but it also tends to be light and fragile. I prefer to use lead crystal glasses, which are a lot heavier and can take a deeper pattern.

Groom’s Wedding Day Must-Haves

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

In all the wedding I have seen, particularly in the movies, the groom looks like the one with all the time in the world. He does not have to be bothered in relation to his hair to be done for hours like his bride’s locks should. The groom does not have to think of any unique techniques to get into his coat or his tuxedo to help to make sure he wears it perfectly unlike the bride who might need at the least 2 or 3 persons to help her slip in to her wedding gown, making sure that each and every specifics of the dress are kept in place and nothing is torn or removed.

But then again, given that the groom doesn’t have to be as detailed as the bride, there are several things that the groom can do in order to avoid any mishaps during this special day. Nobody wants anything bad to happen during their wedding day so this list of must-haves is especially directed to the grooms out there. You are also responsible in keeping order on this special day. To do so you need to:

1. Make sure that the suit, tuxedo, coat or whatever you are wearing for the wedding is clean, mended and ready to wear on the wedding day itself. If you are required to dress up at the wedding venue, the least thing you could do is to bring your clothes there the day before so you will not have a chance to forget it. While you are at it, make sure that you bring your wallet, cash, credit cards and your driver’s license as well. If you’re going on your honeymoon straight after the wedding dinner, then you should pack your things completely a couple of days before to help to make sure everything is there.

2. If you’re supposed to get dressed at home or at the hotel, make sure to lay everything where you can see them. Don’t assume that you know where to find everything when you get dressed tomorrow because this is when you start to get rattled and nervous and chances are you’ll forget to bring something.

3. Pack additional toiletries such as comb, hair gel, hair spray, toothbrush, deodorant, dental floss, cologne and a good breath spray. You never know when one of your groomsmen might need something at the venue. At least you have some things that you could lend them.

4. Should you be under a medication, don’t forget to pack your medical pack set the night before. Put it in the bag where your other toiletries are and put it in your car right away so you won’t have any possibilities of leaving it behind. You don’t want any major medical conditions to take away the limelight from you and your bride during your wedding day.

5. Please do not forget to bring a nice breath spray or breath mints to freshen your breath. I know it is something personal but you might just take your bride’s breath away when you kiss her and you still have the smell of the pizza you ate the day before. You certainly will really knock her off her feet literally while you kiss her with your breath smelling like that.
