A Time-Tested Indulgence – Waffles

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

Because their are so good many people around this big world truly love to eat waffles for their breakfast. Because they are so versatile in what you can put on them, many people even love to have them for dessert. All that they are made from is a batter that is cooked between to hotplates. As a general rule these plates are designed with a waffle pattern giving the waffles their nicely printed look. This waffle grid pattern works exceptionally well to give your toppings nice little indentations to settle in and soak up providing you with an exceptionally flavorful waffle. If you use a Belgian waffle iron, you can even experience the benefits of deeper holes.

The earliest waffles can be traced back into the Middle Ages. In the beginning the waffle makers were simply two steel plates with a hinge on them it up over a fire or a wood stove. People used to peddle their waffles on the streets and in some countries can still be seen providing this service to people who want them. Those early waffle makers were quite a bit trickier to use than our modern waffle makers as you needed to know exactly when they were hot enough and how long to keep them in the iron.

Enough history on the subject though, as most of the people who enjoy waffles enjoy the ease of using a newer style waffle maker. Some of the benefits of them are the fact that they are so incredibly easy to use for anybody to make a perfect waffle. Pretty much all of the models on the market today have the benefits of thermostats, sensors, and timers letting you know exactly when it is ready and when they are done. Most of them are relatively inexpensive so pretty much anybody can afford one, and they are incredibly easy to clean as most of them come with nonstick plates which can be removed from the unit for cleaning.

A really popular type of waffle maker is the Belgian waffle maker. Anybody can make a waffle with one of these little waffle makers. A Belgian waffle makes a smaller waffle then one of your standard sized waffle makers, but they are also quite a bit thicker with larger holes for the goodies. You really don\’t have any limitations on the type of waffle batter you use whether you like sticky and sweet or savory with herbs the choice is yours. These are very versatile and allow you to make them how you wish.

There are some models of waffle makers that have multifunctionality as you can flip over the hot plates to grill things like meat and even sandwiches. You really couldn\’t go wrong with one of these multipurpose machines especially if you love to eat waffles as much as I do.

If you enjoy eating waffles as much as I do and are in the market to buy a new Belgian waffle maker, then you can read some reviews on different models by visiting http://belgianwafflemakers.org.
